Types of Anger Expression in Boy and Girl Students of Elementary Schools

Abstract
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the types of anger expression in boy and girl students of elementary schools.

Methods: Q methodology was applied for the study. Thirty four Q samples for categorizing the types of anger expression were listed up with in-depth interview, and literature review. P samples of this study were 30 boy and 30 girl students in the fifth grade of one elementary school in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The data were analyzed with PC-QUANL program and main factor analysis was used for Q factor analysis.

Results: Four types of anger expression such as passive-emotional, rational problem-solving, active-actional, and support pursuing expression were identified in boy students. And four types of anger expression such as passive-suppressive, rational-suppressive, indirect-emotional and emotional-aggressive expression were identified in girl students.

Conclusion: The types of anger expression in both boy and girl students were divided into four types respectively. In both boy students and girl students, there were types to express anger passively and to control it properly. And both boy and girl students showed positive and negative strategies of anger expression together. Therefore, anger regulation program for the elementary students which is suitable for each type is recommended.
